Fish oil is a oil which is derived from tissues of fish, it contains plenty of omega-3 fatty acids (Eicosapentaenoic acid EPA and Docosahexaenoic acid DHA) which help to reduce the inflammation in the body. 

Fish which are highly rich in omega-3 acid are mackerel, herring, tuna and salmon. 

Fresh water and marine water fish oil vary in contains of EPA and DHA.

In 2019 FDA approved, fours fish oil based prescription drugs, namely Omtryg (omega-3 acid ethyl esters), Lovaza (Omega-3 acid ethyl), Epanova (omega-3 carboxylic acids) and  Vascepa (ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid). 

Only 30 of fish oil are made up of omega-3 fatty acid and remaining 70% are made up from different fats. 

Omega-3 acids also found in plants source but omega-3 which derived from fish have greater health benefits than plant omega-3.

Fish oil along with proper diet and workout may improve body composition and may help you lose weight.

Omega-3 fatty acids are very essential for your brain because your brain is made up of 60% fat which also include omega-3 fatty acids. 

Some researches have been shown that, omega-3 can prevent the onset the symptoms of some mental disorder.

Eating fish can help to reduce the risk of getting Age-related macular degeneration. some research shows that people who don't get enough amount of omega-3 acid have a risk of eye diseases.

Depression is one of the largest mental illness. some studies have shown that the people with depression have lower blood level of omega-3s. 

Fish oil may improve symptoms of depression. EPA is more helpful than DHA according to some studies. 

Dosage

  • The FDA recommends not exceeding 3 grams per day of EPA=DHA from all sources, with no more than 2 grams per day from dietary supplements.
