Gastroesophageal reflux is the condition of the digestive problem, in which stomach acid or bile flows in to the food line or esophagus and irritated the lining.Â

GERD is very common, estimates more than 10 million cases of GERD per year in India.
It is a very common problem so that most of the people can rid of the discomfort of this reflux by some lifestyle changes. but if this condition persist for longer time then you may need stronger medications.Â
Here are the list of some common symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux:
- Burning sensation in your chest specially after eating something
- Regurgitation of food or sour liquid
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Chest pain
- Sensation of lump
There are some common risk factors which may cause GERD:
- Obesity
- Hiatal hernia
- Pregnancy
- Delayed stomach emptying

- Eating large meal

- Drinking beverages
There are some lifestyle changes and health tips that can reduce the acid reflux and heart burn:
1. Use pillow below your headÂ
Most of the people feels acid reflux at night due to overeating or late night eating. reflux at night can affect your sleep quality and make it difficult to sleep.Â
By elevating your head with help of pillow could help you to reduce the symptoms of acid reflux and improve sleep quality.Â

2. Eat dinner meal earlier
The one who eat their meal in late night usually feels the symptoms of acid reflux, because lying after a meal makes digestion difficult.Â
According to a review, late night dinner eating increased the acid reflux exposure by 5%.Â
So, it is better to eat early in the evening to reduce symptoms of acid reflux.Â

3. Maintain healthy weightÂ
There is a muscle which is located above your stomach, known as Diaphragm, which strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter (opens into the stomach, acts as a valve), which prevents acid reflux.Â

4. Chew gum
Some older studies have shown that chewing gum may help reduce the symptoms of acid reflux, but there is need of more up to dated research to clarify this statement.Â
Chewing gum increases the saliva production, that help to clear the acid present on lining on the esophagus.Â

5. Limit the consumption of alcohol
Alcohol can aggravates the symptoms of acid reflux by increasing the acid and relaxing the lower esophageal sphincter.Â
According to some researches drinking alcohol may worsen the symptoms of acid reflux.Â

 6. Avoid certain food
There are some food which you have to avoid, otherwise it could trigger reflux, include Spicy foods, onions, garlic, coffee, alcohol, fatty acid.Â
