If you are at your 50s and you spent your last 3-4 decades by living sedentary life and now you want to improve the quality of life by making muscular and strong body, then yes it can happen but it will take lots of time and hardwork too.

He passed away on 26 April 2017.
So now i don't think that you need much more example or motivation to hit the gym to change your lifestyle in your 50s and achieve that you want to achieve in your 20s-30s.

How to start
Before going to hit gym get the green signal to your doctor and gradually start your bodybuilding by spending on 20-30 minutes in order or make atomic habits which lead to you surprising results to you.
For safety concern always do the workout under supervision of any trainer.
Proper rest is very necessary, rest help you to repair your broken muscle fiber and prevent from injury as well.
Plant the workout and diet according to your work goal and health condition.
